Chapter Two    Summary of the Four Sessions

Looking back on the four sessions of South Asia - Sichuan Business Promotion Round-Table Conference, we can see that the cooperation between Sichuan and South Asian countries is fruitful, marking a new milestone for greater progress.

We seek to establish a long-term cooperation mechanism to strengthen bilateral exchanges and cooperation between the commerce chambers and other business institutions of the two sides. At the First South Asia-Sichuan Business Promotion Round-Table Conference in 2010, CCPIT Sichuan signed a multilateral Memorandum of Cooperation with ten commerce chambers and industrial associations from the Eight Countries of South Asia to establish a long-term cooperation mechanism, deepen areas of cooperation and strengthen exchanges. In the following sessions, CCPIT Sichuan signed bilateral Agreements of Cooperation with Confederation of Indian Industry and National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka, etc. In general, CCPIT Sichuan has signed cooperation agreements with fifteen commerce chambers from the South Asian countries. All the parties have reached a consensus that they will further strengthen exchanges and boost inter-regional cooperation through delegation visits and establishing representative offices, to promote bilateral trade and investment cooperation.

On the platform of each Round-Table Conference, Sichuan companies have B2B matchmaking with South Asian companies, numbers of both companies and turnover are growing yearly.

Several business institutions and organizations from South Asian countries, such as Maldives National Chamber of Commerce & Industries, The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Nepal China Executives Council and China – South Asia Business Council have all set up representative offices or liaison offices in Chengdu to strengthen information exchanges and in-depth cooperation.

Delegations from South Asian countries have participated in exhibitions in Sichuan for many times, such as the Western China International Economy and Trade Fair and the China (Sichuan) Imported Commodities Fair organized by the CCPIT Sichuan, as well as the South Asian Exhibition of the Western China International Economy and Trade Fair, the First South Asian Tourism Exhibition held in June of 2011, and the West China Trade Fair of Imported Goods in June 2012, at which the main goods for display come from South Asia.

The products displayed covers hydraulic power, farm machinery, seeds, medicines, industrial machinery, chemical engineering, textiles, and construction, etc. The Sichuan companies have gained excellent results from these exhibitions, and they enjoyed considerable recognition from the local businessmen and media and reached agreements worth several hundred million dollars.
