Last year, the installed capacity of hydropower in Sichuan increased by 17% from the previous year to 61.7 million KW, sitting at first place nationwide. According to related data, the installed capacity of hydropower in Sichuan totaled above 80% of installed electricity capacity across the province. Sichuan is regarded as the largest natural gas production base nationwide presently and the prospective reserve of natural gas there now reaches about 7.2 trillion m3.

In addition, positive efforts have been made to construct solar photovoltaic industrial bases in Panzhihua and Xichang, wind power generation bases in Ganzi, A’ba and Liangshan prefectures and wellhead gas power generation bases in main natural gas producing areas. Up until the end of last year, Sichuan hydropower, photovoltaic & solar energy, natural gas and other clean energies achieved rapid development. Non-fossil energies consumption rose above 36% of total energies consumed in Sichuan, 25 percentage points higher than the national average level.

Driven by the considerable size of clean energy in Sichuan, a series of traditional industries have picked up.

Such trends became noticeable early in the first quarter, when the added value of oil and natural gas utilization in Sichuan gained a year-on-year increase of 37.6%. Electricity and heat production as well as supply industries grew the most quickly among industries above designated size in Sichuan since the second half of last year and still maintained rapid development during the first two months of this year, turning into the most important contributor to overall industrial profits of Sichuan.
