Sichuan Economy Grows Steadily with Multiple Indicators Higher than National Average in the First Eight Months

The added value of Sichuan’s above-scale industries has increased by 7.9% in the first eight months compared to the same period last year. The growth rate of August rises again after a fall, 0.1% higher than the first seven months, and 1.9% higher than the national average. In August, the added value rose by 8.7%, 2.4% higher than the national average, which hit a new record this year.

Enterprise revenue also had a lift. The accumulated profit of Sichuan’s above-scale industries reached to RMB 122.81 billion in the first seven months with a year-on-year growth of 7.2%. The profit achieved in July was RMB 17.26 billion with a year-on-year growth of 33.4%. Its growth rate was 21.2% higher than that of June, the highest in this year. In lateral view, accumulative growth rate of Sichuan's industrial profit was 0.3% higher than the national average, the first time above national average after a fall since last July.

The profit lift of industrial companies is mainly attributed to the price rebound and government support. In the "year of project", Sichuan's investment volume kept growing rapidly. In the first eight months, Sichuan's total social fixed-assets investment reached RMB 1,922.59 billion with a year-on-year growth of 11.6%. The fixed assets investment (excluding peasant households) attained to RMB 1,859.144 billion, increasing by 12.1%. Its growth rate was 4.0% higher than the national average.

In the first eight months the investment in Sichuan's extended projects accounted for 68.6% of the total investment of the whole year, 2% higher than the same period of the previous year. 113 new provincial key projects were commenced, with a rate of operation of 57.4%. A pile of projects like translational medicine, high-altitude cosmic ray observation station and national important scientific and technological infrastructures had seen dramatic breakthroughs in early stage, laying a solid foundation for amplifying reasonable and effective investments in Sichuan and greatly mobilizing the increase of fixed-assets investment by 12.1%, which was 4% higher than the national average.

Over the first eight months, the gross retail sales of social consumer goods have grown to RMB 982.92 billion with a year-on-year growth of 11.5%, which is 1.2% higher than the national average. The gross retail sales of social consumer goods of August were 0.1% higher than July. (September 28th, Sichuan Daily/Dong Shimei)
